About Me
My name is Mircea Paşoi and I am an entrepreneur and an engineer. Originally from Romania, I now live in the lovely city of Vancouver, working on my web startup, Summify. I moved here because my company was accepted into the Bootup Labs incubation program.
Biography
I fell in love with computers at the age of 7 when my parents bought their first computer, an Intel 286 with 1MB of RAM and 40MB hard-disk.
I started my career in programming at the age of 11 by participating in algorithm contests. During high school, I became pretty good at solving algorithm problems in competitive environments: I got one gold medal (International Olympiad in Informatics in Mexico, 2006) and three silver medals.
I continued to take part in programming contests during university (ACM World Finals, Topcoder tournaments) as well, but I mostly focused on finding out if a software engineer job is for me. I did an internship at Microsoft in Redmond (2007), another one at Google in Mountain View (2008) and also worked full-time for 8 months for a Romanian startup called uberVU (2009).
During this time, I got a pretty generous full-time offer from Facebook but I decided to turn it down. I wanted to become an entrepreneur, to follow my own path and to do my own thing.
The first startup I co-founded was balaur.ro (launched in March 2009), a job search engine for the Romanian market. In less than an year, it became one of the leading job search engines in my country. We quickly realized that we wanted to do something more global, so we started Summify, a product that helps you preview any link on the web.
In December 2009 I received an awesome news: Summify (then ReadFu) was accepted into Bootup Labs, a startup incubator. As part of the program, I had to move to Vancouver for 8 months, starting in January 2010. So here I am, I’ve left everything behind and I am working on my dream, making history!
